The Middle Harbour Races

Currently there are 7 Courses taking a variety of routes to accommodate a wide range of water craft and abilities: Ranging from Courses to suit Coastal 4s, FISA Offshore (Quads, Doubles, Singles), Currachs, Kayaks and Olympic style Boats (Singles, Doubles Quads, Eights)

All Participants will be presented with a commemorative “The Middle Harbour Race- The Passage of time” Medal. In addition to this there will prizes for the fastest time in each race. A perpetual trophy will be presented to the fastest boat that competes in the Middle Harbour 3 mile race.

 

Ringmahon Lighthouse Challenge

This course is 10km in length and is aimed at FISA boats (Singles, Doubles, Quads) and Coastal Four style boats.

This course will run from Passage West to North Eastern side of Lough Mahon in a clock wise direction.


The Captain Mackey Challenge

This is a 12km course that takes the race participants past the site of Captain Mackey Lomasney’s raid of 1987 on the Martello tower at Fota island, making prisoners of the gunners and capturing 300lbs of gun-powder and other military stores along with several rifles.

This Race is aimed at Kayaks due to the shallow waters and shifting mud banks in the area


The Middle Harbour Race

In an ode to the historical Glenbrook regatta, there will be a continues time trial race run over a 3 mile distance. This distance was used in the races during the Cork Harbour Rowing Club regatt. The fastest time recorded in this race was 18 minutes, which was set by the Cork Harbour Rowing Club Crew of A.Stamers, E.Minehear, P. Power, T.Boland and Charles J. Leahy(coxswain) in 1859.

Currach 10k

This is a 10km course

This Race is open to Currach of all designs and begins at Passage West heading north to the village of Glounthaune before retuning to passage west


Head Of the River

A 3km Head of the River race will run from Lough Mahon to Passage West As shown.

This Race is open to all boats types and is particularly designed for river boats.


Junior Challenge

This challenge is designed for young rowers such as U12 and U14s who are unable to compete in the 3 mile or 10km race. This race will be a time trial and will be run throughout the day starting from.


5km Fr. Con Challenge

This course is for sit on kayaks and any kayakers who are unable to complete the 12km course
